8 or 9 inch booster for a canalever mount

Post by tnlprt »

I need a 8 inch brake booster with the short lever for the cantilever mount on the firewall

I am trying to put my Cobra Lemans cast valve covers on my 427 in my 67 short bed and they hit the current
12 inch diameter brake booster
What I need is the correct part number for a Cardone rebuilt booster and I cant seem to find one if it does exist
Which at this point i am not sure it does

you will need a 67 only booster. it will fit in the cantilever bracket once you remove the cantilever stuff from the brackets.

So are you saying that I
need to use the cantilever brackets with out the cantilever guts
the booster that comes up has the long pushrod and cant be used with the cantilever setup

you can disassemble the brackets. but i just noticed that the cantilever brackets and the standard brackets are a different depth. so you may have to use the 68-72 straight booster with the cantilever brackets. the cantilever brackets i am showing came form a 76 super cab with a 460 in it. the other bracket came from a 70 F100 with 360 and a dual diapragm booster with a straight rod.

No Offense meant
I have no problem spending the money on new parts
as long as I know for a fact that the parts fit
I dont like ordering parts and then returning them because I made the mistake of ordering the wrong part

Like I said no offense meant
but I need to know what brackets and what booster is a bolt in fit for my 67 short bed
with the tall Cobra cast Aluminum valve covers

Right now it has the cantilever brackets with a 12 inch booster and the valve covers wont fit

I bought a small diameter booster (it has the long pushrod) for a 74 F250
but to put it on the cantilever brackets
The push rod would be at such an odd angle that I dont think it would work with out binding up
and it would not push square into the booster

So as it stands I am at a stand still
If any one has done this I would appreciate some insight
Thanks
Joe

You were on the right track. What you want is a booster with the short arm for the cantilever linkage and a later F250 can supply that one. They are smaller in diameter than most of the smaller trucks and are available with the linkage which does make them mount higher. The ones with the linkage have about a two inch higher centerline than those without so they are very useful for clearing valve covers. Unfortunately Ford did not list them by design in the books as they only sold them as a complete assembly with the brackets and linkage already attached. If somebody has one off of a truck they can look on the arm for a number and I can translate that into an original applications. I do have several of these myself but they are on my trucks so I can't look at the number. Hawkrod

Your looking for the booster on the left in this picture from the devil site FTE:

can you do me a favor and measure the distance between the firewall and the center of the bolt hole on the brake pedal. i measured mine and it doenst seem correct for a 67 but it might be. i thought it was suppose to be 3 7/8 but i have a differnet measurement. and i am ready to fix my brakes on this truck. that i sall that is left fo rme to drive it again.

I probably should do hydra boost since I am going to run a 655 lift hydraulic roller cam
But I have a 1 gallon vacuum reservoir to store the vacuum
and I want it to look factory

Not sure if this will help as I have no numbers or measurements but. I used a brake booster and mounts from a 72 F250 on my 71 F100. It is a small booster I'll go measure. ..It is about 8" or maybe 8 1/4" across. It has the brackets that drop it down maybe an inch.
The 72 F250 was a camper Special if I remember right. 390/c6 with the duel piston front disc brakes.
I have a 460 with stock 77 mounts and there is several inches to the stock valve covers.
Hope it helps
