1976 F100 steering

Post by sterlingstein »

Hello
I have a 1976 F100 and the steering shaft slipped off the spline where it enters the steering box. It is like a universal joint that is splined I put it back on but i am missing the bolt.
The steering box shaft is maybe one inch long by 1/2 inch diameter - it has a radial undercut groove the whole way around it - the thread size is 5/16 on the yoke that slips on the shaft (it is threaded only on one side not completely thru)-
The bolt starts to thread in but doesn't appear to fit in the radial undercut groove - it almost looks like it needs a special bolt , with maybe a long setscrew turned down on one end to fit in the radial undercut groove with a nut on top to prevent it from backing out.
any ideas?
I can't take the risk of this coming off going down the road I need to get the right bolt
Thank you in advance of your answer
best Regards
dwight
