'67 LWB 4WD parking brake cables - aux fuel tank

Post by akuma10408 »

Both of mine are out, completely snapped. All the places I checked do not list the rear cables for a 4WD. Summit, RockAuto, LMC, NPD, noboday lists a 4WD cable for a '67. In addition, I remember reading that trucks with an aux. tank needed different length cables, but I'm not sure which style of tank that applies to. The tank I have sits in the drivers front corner underneath of the box, outside the frame rail. It seems to attach with nuts on two long studs through the middle of the tank. I don't know if its factory or not, but I doubt it since the switch and wiring looks like a PO special. It works fine.

Where can I find new brake cables? If no one makes them, I'll order a custom set. If so, I could probably set up a group buy.

ok ignore the aux fuel tank idea. that is not considered a aux fuel tank from the factory. it is only a dealer or aftermarket added on fuel tank. dealer i think. my truck has two of them on both sdies of the truck outside the frame.

try www.macautoparts.com page 234 in the paper catalog part number C6TZ-2A635-C RIGHT SIDE 60 5/8 LONG C6TZ2A635-D LEFT SIDE 50 1/4 INCHES LONG. these do not specify 2wd or 4wd. but they give you the measurements so you can check them against yours. now for what i know. the 2wd and 4wd F100 cables are the same from 67-69 with a 9 inch rear end. but i cant document this. someone who has a master parts catalog should be able to give you either the correct numbers or verify these numbers as beign correct from mac's. i have a master parts cd. but i cant search for 8 hours to find the correct page for the numbers. i hate this cd.

MPC doesn't say anything about the aux fuel tank where these cables are concerned. nor do they make a distinction between SWB and LWB, so I'm assuming the difference between SWB and LWB is in the extension cables or the front cable. They only break it down to 67-69 F100 4x4 before Ser# D96,001, so the following should be correct for a 67:

C7TZ 2A635-M - RH, 61-21/32" long (Yellow)
C7TZ 2A635-N - LH, 65-51/64" long (Orange)

I would think that if you got close to these measurements (a little longer, but none shorter) you would be okay, you would just have a little extra, which could be dealt with.

That being said, measure yours, because what fordman posted may be correct.

If his info isn't correct, you're probably going to have to find them on ebay, because I've checked, and no dealer in the US has the ones I've listed.

Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???

That's not an oil leak :nono: That's SWEAT from all that HORSEPOWER!!
