Steering column braket adjustment
So I put in a ididit column and thanks to everyone for their help on that. Last night I noted that the column is tilted a little to the left and the speedo is not centered when i look through the steering wheel. I took the little cover off that covers up where the column bolts to under the dash and it is not centered there is about a 1/2 inch gap on the right side and its pretty much all the way to the left. Is that braket adjustable at all? it looks like the braket also has the tab mounted on it for the brake switch. This is a old family truck (72) and my uncle who originaly had it, had a bad knee and he had the brake peddle cut/welded so it didn't hurt his knee so much. When I was a kid my dad and I went to the junk yard and got a different peddle and installed it..I was thinking maybe someone had adjusted the column braket over so he could get in/ out easyer with the bad leg. I droped the column down and lossened the two bolts that hold it to the dash but it doesn't seem to move. Before I take the gauge cluster out and inspect further, I thought I would ask if there are more bolts up in the dash to get it to move over more. I guess I never noticed it befor when it had the stock column and steering wheel on it. Now that it has a nice leather wheel on it when I look at the speedo and its not centered it drives me bonkers. Sorry for the long post.

i am not usre i know what you are talking about. can you get a picture of this bracket? the column seal bracket doesnt have any real adjustment to it. or does the brake pedal bracket. these truck column are off center on purpose.

Re: Steering column braket adjustment
I didn't know they were off center on purpose. Maybe it's just me being to pickey. And now that I have the f600 cluster in it and the speedo isn't centered in the middle of the steering wheel. The cover is out being chromed so i just noted that gap and started looking. The bracket im talking about is just the one the column bolts to under the dash with the two bolts. To be honest I didnt even notice it untill i saw the difference in gap. ps.....thanks for the weather info for my ride.

Take a look at this thread: http://www.fordification.com/forum/view ... =5&t=49467
It pretty much explains it all.

Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???
That's not an oil leak
That's SWEAT from all that HORSEPOWER!!

Re: Steering column braket adjustment
well that pretty much does says it all....I cant wait to get my cover back from the chrome shop so i don't have to look at that. Everything feels crooked....so to speak..
..btw what a huge difference in steering now...it drives like a brand new truck...the wiring was fairly straight up. the "gm" connector they use was a joke so I cut it off and just made a pig tail and soldered it all in to the stock connector. What was weird/hard was the Neutral safety switch again a "gm' part. I had to email ididit tech support. He sent me the NSS adjustment procedure and it was still way off. Starting in park/reverse and back up lights in drive. The nss also hit the support beam right above the column and under the dash. In order to get it to start only in park and have b-up lights while in reverse, i used a hose clamp to hold it in place, and turned it way to the left by about an inch. It works and doesn't hit anything. I cant start it in neutral but in my 20 years of that truck I can't think of the last time i needed to start it in neutral.
