Re: King pin removal
Good evening 69RangerF100,
While I've read of many folks pounding it out (sometimes with heat) or pressing it out, I chose to take mine to a machine shop to have the kingpins removed. They also pounded out the old metal bushings, installed the new ones, and reamed them to fit while the assemblies were there--it was convenient that way!
EDIT: The charge for all that work was $145, just to give you a ballpark price.

Re: King pin removal
I am with Robroy on this one. I gave mine to the machine shop and the guy told me my pins really gave is press a work out. I am sure I would have had an aneurism trying to do them myself with hammers and heat.

Re: King pin removal
Even if you got them out, you'd still have to take it to a shop to have the new bushings installed and reamed to fit, so just have them remove the old ones while you're at it.

Re: King pin removal
Got mine out with a press and a little heat. I'd pay a shop $50 to do it instead next time.

Re: King pin removal
do them in a press if you can. hammers and heat is a pian. one thing i did do the last time i did some was to take a torch and carefully cut the lower bearign off of the king pin between the spindle and i beam. that really helped get it unstuck.
