before I apply a lot of force between the 2 peices I thought I would check before tearing something up.

A tie rod end puller would work for this. Get one at your local auto parts supplier. They're not that expensive. They're shaped like a 'U' with a little hook on the end and a bolt that goes down through the middle. Hook the tool over the steering linkage end and center the bolt on the tool over the bolt of the drag link end. Tighten the bolt and it will push the end of the of the drag link out.
I always put the nut on the drag link bolt first, up at the end, so I don't booger up the threads.

If you don't want to buy one, Autozone and I believe Kragen rents these. When I did mine, I rented a couple sizes of forks (one was for the pitman arm, another for tie rod ends. They worked well.

i usually just use a "pickle fork" and a hammer. Doing this tends to tear up the boots so you may not want to unless you are replacing them anyway. Most parts stores have these to loan out. Good luck

I have a couple pit man arm pullers and a ball joint puller. I had issues when I pulled my pitman arm where the leg thickness was to big to fit between the gear box and the arm so had to get a special one and it had bolts across it also to tighten to keep in on. Ive had bad luck with the pickle fork just tears it all up and still doesnt come out, the pullers are the best way to go in my opinion

one of them I have

Thanks gang, I got a loaner from Autozone

had to tear up the rubber seal anyway to get the puller over the bolt and draglink, but got it on and got it pulled.
