rag joint rebuild?
my steering coupler is torn, and steering on one bolts is...,well it works, or was working before i torn up the front end. Linkage and steering box included. anyblah. i see they have rebuild kits. i realize that i could go buy a new one. but i can't find one i canada, or locally. any buddy tried these kits? Are a couple of the pins actually rivots and the other two bolts? It is for a '69 f250 if it makes a diff. thanks, bruno

Re: rag joint rebuild?
I put a kit in my 71 F100 a couple weeks ago. The first one I got was a universal one supposedly to fit Fords, Chebbys and Dodges. Too small. Ended up going to AutoZone to get the right one.
Two are bolts and the other two are studs. But since mine had never been changed, I had to grind the stud heads off (per instructions) and figure out which threaded stud to use. If you get the universal kit, you will have parts left over. I think that's so you'll feel like a real mechanic. Good luck.

If it's the original on there, you have to grind the head off on the steering box side. I found out from the instructions after wondering about it for a couple hours.

Re: rag joint rebuild?
I bought one at Canadian Tire in the help section and I agree with fordman, the universal fit rag-joint are not worth it. If nothing else get one from from an 80s Ford truck or van at a junk yard and just use the rag-disk for your truck. Thats what I did and it works good.bettyford250 wrote:i realize that i could go buy a new one. but i can't find one i canada, or locally. any buddy tried these kits?
