differnet rotors and what they will fit

Post by hot_roder09 »

will a 5x4.5 bolt patterned rotor use the same spindle as rotor with a 5x5.5 bolt patterened and will this spindle fit a djm drop beam, wh :? at i am trying to do is put drop beams under my f100 and get a disc brake setup from a mid 70'sw f100 and use all the hardware except the rotor and i will find me a rotor with a 5x4.5 bolt pattern from say some kind of car or some thing.

rotors that will fit will be determined by bearign sizes and depth of rotor. where the bearings and races are at.

The rotors from an early 80"s F100 which were 5x4.5 use the same bearings but the offset is way off so you would have to fab up new caliper mounts, it would be simplier to have rotors redrilled, last pair i had done cost $ 25 a piece, so to answer your question no there are not any rotors that will easily swap out , that would be too easy for us, if you happen to find something that works let us all know.

I searched high and low for something that would bolt on. the closest i found was a 76/77 chrysler rotor but the bearing spacing wasn't quite right.
Ended up redrilling and also turned the center spigot down to 2-3/4" because the 3-1/2" that they are is to big for a lot of wheels.
As for getting someone around here to even look at them for $25 won't happen.
Had a extra pair done to see if there would be any interest but there was "0".

I'm running rotors (5X5.5) from an 80s truck on my 72 and they fit fine. Maybe the offset from the 5X4.5 is different from the 5X5.5, I have no knowledge about that. I've never even seen a 5X4.5 boltpatern rotor from an 80s Ford truck.

80-81 F150 "Light Duty" used a 5 on 4-1/2 pattern but they will not interchange with the standard duty truck rotors.
Otherwise all 1973 thru 1993 F100 and F150 2wd trucks use the same rotor..

the king pin for the 80 and up trucks are probably differen tsizes. so you probably cant use those spindles with your i beams. but that is just a good guess on the king pin sizes. i know the i beams on the 80 and up trucks are longer. so it will put the frotn wheels out further. and make the rear end look even narrower than it did before.

The 80 and up trucks have ball-joints instead of king-pins.

Same place the kind pins go. connecting the spindle to the beam.

I-Beams were used up to 96
They stopped using king pins and went to ball joints in 80/81. And it was around this time when they moved the steering to the front of the spindle rather than at the rear..

My question is, will the i-beams and stuff from a first gen lightning truck work on our rides?
