flexomatic rear springs

I've been wondering about them for a while and reading the new 71 ford-vs-chevy brochure brought it back to my mind.

Why did ford stop using them? they seem like a pretty advanced piece of engineering.

I would have to agree with that.
Manufacturers are always always looking for ways to cut costs.
I like my Flex-O-Matic. I have had Frankie loaded up pretty good a time or two, and it never really seemed to affect the ride much.

Oldhalf- it was both cost and changing technology. When Ford dropped the flex-o-matic system, they started using tapered leaves, which accomplish the same thing but with fewer parts to make and stock.
