Dentening the in-cab fuel tank

Has anyone ever sprayed a rubberized coating over the fuel tank to help with low level fuel noises? I don't think I would like to go through the time and expense to relocate the fuel tank just to make room for speakers and lowering the noise quality (i.e. fuel slosh).

maybe a piece of old house carpet would work for you.

I don't think it would work. It is hard to cover the noise of a 5 gallons of gallons sloshing from side to side. Plus, what would a 67-72 Ford truck be without the fuel sloshing sound going on...add the hollow door slam sound and these babies are pretty unique.

I agree....you might be able to muffle the sound a bit, but I seriously doubt you're going to eliminate it. You could remove the tank and wrap all kinds of sound-deadening material around it, but reducing the noise is about as good as you're gonna get. If it really bothers you that much, about your only course of action is rounding up an auxliary tank setup and getting rid of the in-cab tank.

i think he said he does have an auxillary tank as well.

I don't think insulating the outside of the tank would accomplish much. Fuel cell manufacturers use an extremely open foam (spongy) material to eliminate or control fuel movement in their tanks. The foam takes up about 2 or 3% of the tanks volume. Could this be a solution to fuel slosh? Provisions for the fuel float and means of installing the foam would be challenges. Installing the foam in the bottom quarter of the tank should be all that would be needed.
