draglink pitcure? does anybody have one

Post by bwc302 »

does anyone have a picture of a 2w draglink (disc brake front end)?

I am specifically looking for a close up picture of the end of the draglink where the pitman arms inserts into it (picture of the hole). Should it be round or kind oblong like an egg?

Mine is kick of egg shell shaped and when messing with it the other day noticed metal shavings inside where the bushing from the pitman arm had worn out. I wanted to make sure that this is not how it should be shaped before buying another one.

Thanks for your help.

I went by Autozone on the way home from work tonight and ask for a draglink for the front end.

the guy brought out a draglink that had both ends like the picture below. Is that how it should look':hmm:'

Image

if so that explains my problem very well as only the side that goes into the spindle has that bolt and the other side has a hole where the bolt should be (it looks like it may have pulled out and is still stuck in the pitman arm).

Can someone please confirm for me that both sides should have that bolt sticking up?

Thanks,

Bobby

Yes, the drag link should have studs like the picture above on both ends. One end goes into the Pitman arm, the other goes into the passenger-side spindle. In the middle of the drag link is a hole, where the end of the tie-rod goes and the other end of that goes into the driver-side spindle.

If there's a stud sticking out of your Pitman arm, that that's definitely the end of the drag-link that's pulled out. I'd say it's a good think you weren't driving that truck when it came apart!

Are you sure about that?? Drag links for our trucks are normally priced in the $75-$90 range. However, if you can get it for that, definitely go for it. However, I just checked the AutoZone website and was quoted $85 for the drag link.

I am with yea, I was surprised at that price also so I had the guy print me out a ticket on it so I made sure I asked for the right part number when I go back in Saturday with my old one..

I just checked the web site and it was there at 39.99

here is the link

http://autozone.com/servlet/UiBroker?Us ... 7EDRAGLINK

it is a Duralast DS807.

check it out, it may be one of those to good to be true deals (but I hope not)

Thanks,

Bobby

that part number is for a tie rod end and is not availbe for your truck. you need to search for centerlink the one for my truck is 86.99 however your part number should be ds737 it is 56.99

when I do a search for draglink for a 76 1/2 2wd (disc brake donor parts truck) on the autozone website that is the number and link that comes up.

It is the same as the one the guy at the store brought up, pulled from the box and showed to me.

it was about 38 - 46 inches long and looks like the steering rod and link assembly in the diagram that was in your post fordman. maybe I just got lucky on the right year disc brake donor parts truck???'' That would be rare but just maybe:lol:'

btw.. thanks for the diagram the visual brough everythnig into view... made a lot more sense

that is a handy book fordman, nice easy pic to understand

and yep Keith, thanks to this site I had the courage to take on the disc brake swap myself.. have spent the last 6 weeks (few hours on weekends) stripping the disc brake front end and all the power steering components off the 76.. the front end on it was in worse shape then I would have hoped, but once I paid for it there was no turning back... plus I think I got enough parts from it to make it worth while.

been sharing the stripping chores between this one and a 71 1/2 to get the under hood p/s and a/c stuff

Thanks again guys :)
