Steering column differance?

Post by dssco »

Ok, I'm gathering parts to convert my '69 F100 to disc brakes. I snagged the spindles and pitman arm from a '73 and want to use the bigger 1973 drag link, tie rods, etc.. From reading the tech,it sounds like the new Saginaw pitman arm will not work on my Bendix P/S box, so I have to switch out the steering box, engine mount perch and steering column. The tech info says that the '67 to '70 columns are shorter than the '71-'72. Is this just because of the extra threads for the steering wheel nut? I have no problem with grinding down the end of the shaft, as I am keeping my three spoke wheel. Thank you for any help.

yes you have to use the 73 column. and grind off the nub on the shaft to use the horn ring or horn button.

I used a 72 F250 PS column when I swapped my 71 F100 over to discs, power-steering and automatic. I never knew there was a difference between say 72 and 73 up.
I didn't have any problems. I used the discs from a 77 F150.
