Re: 1970 highboy project

Re: 1970 highboy project
I only have a grab handle on the passenger side and I never use it. I would imagine I wouldn't use it on the drivers side either, but since the one I have is on there I plan on leaving it there, it doesn't bother me either. I have always been inclined to grab the steering wheel.

Got the old beast road legal and took it for a test drive. She does pretty good, but is far from great. Got some quirks that are going to need some attention at some point, but nothing that is dire. Soon as I can get the heater thing staightened out, she can be a daily driver.

Good evening Bill,
I think your new wheels look fantastic--I really like the way black wheels look! Do you happen to have a more detailed photo of them?
And the tires look exceedingly healthy and perfect! That's a nice upgrade. I'll bet they smell like a million bucks!

Re: 1970 highboy project
Thanks guys I appreciate it. I like the way the black wheels look and I have plans to eventually put my bed rail caps on the bed painted gloss black, paint the rear bumper gloss black, a gloss black headache rack, and eventually make a custom front bumper, you gussed it, gloss black.
Robroy, I will get some better pics of the wheels and tires tomorrow when the weather clears here. And yes, they smell terrific!

Re: 1970 highboy project
lifting the front and new tires and wheels makes a big difference on your truck, looks a lot better now. when you turn the wheel do you have good clearences on the front tire to fender ? Did you ever find out what was makeing the truck lean after you put on the new springs.

Wow that looks amazing! Such a differance! That's all stock highboy height except the new front springs are 2" lift (leveling) right? Sits perfect. My springs are probably all sagged out, I think I'll get the same ones you did.

Re: 1970 highboy project
Thanks, I have not clearance issues. The tire shop I was at check everything upon installation, but I still cranked the tires both ways and tried out for my self. All is good and the leveling kit seemed to help out a lot. I have not figured out exactly what caused it to lean. When I got it back yesterday it looks like it is better. I hope it stays. Before all the tires where aired up exactly the same so I don't know what was wrong. The only other thing that I did along with the new wheels and tires is I got a front end alignment done.hazelnut wrote:lifting the front and new tires and wheels makes a big difference on your truck, looks a lot better now. when you turn the wheel do you have good clearences on the front tire to fender ? Thanks also, ya that is a 2" leveling kit from sky jacker. Seems like a pretty good setup but I must give this warning. I bought mine from 4wheelonline and the order was screwed up from the beginning. Although I got the correct spring packs, they sent me a stablilizer kit instead of all the hardware I needed. I don't know if the screw up was sky jacker or 4 wheelonline, but when I called to get it fixed, 4wheelonline took forever to resolve the issue and I will never buy from them again. I finally got my hardware yesterday, aprx 2 months after the intitial orfer. I also had to send back the stabalizer kit, at their expense.1971ford wrote:Wow that looks amazing! Such a differance! I will probably do a vendor feedback post on them soon so no one else has to go throught them. I think they are more oriented on selling modern money making parts and don't really have a clue about real mechanics.
Casey's71 and Doug, I really appreciate the compliments. Its nice to have some approval from the left and right coast
