Does anyone know if a rear end from a '66 Thunderbird would swap out with a rear differential from a '72 F100 2WD? Well, for that matter, does anyone now if this swap would work on any '67 thru '72 pick-up?
Thanks!

re: Rear end swap
I am pretty sure you can put any rear end you want under these old trucks. I would worry about how to hook it up though. Too many differences in car vs. truck parts. U-Joint and flanges spring perch locations and u bolts probably are differnt enough to make it too much of a hassle.
I sure somone with more knowledge will help out.

re: Rear end swap
I'm not entirely sure on this, but doesn't a T-bird have a coil-spring rear suspension? Like Rick says, with enough time, money and work you can make just about anything fit, but the question is why? Trying to fit something else into your truck is going to cost a LOT more than the $100-$150 you spend for a good used rearend. If your truck needs one, save yourself a LOT of grief and just find a '67-'72 rearend and bolt it up in an afternoon. If your truck already has a 9", you could probably swap the pumpkin, as long as you verify that it's got 28-spline axles, so that your truck's original axles could be used.

re: Rear end swap
Thanks guys!
No knowing all that much about what will swap and what won't is why I thought I'd better ask before I take the T-Bird rear end. It was going to be free so I thought it would be better than the 3.73 or 4.00 gear ratios I've been seeing.
I still haven't purchased a truck yet but everything I've come across is stocked with low ratios (think that's how you state it...). Usually 3.73 or higher. Not to highway friendly.
Well, if I get this truck I've been looking at, I'll diffinently be looking for a third member at least. It's stocked with 3.73 gears.

re: Rear end swap
One more quick question.
Doesn't a member sell rebuilt third members? I thought I saw something on fordification.com that gave a listing of various rear end parts and their respective cost.
