King pin Question

ok i have a 69 f100 and my donor disk brake set up is from a 73 f100. i was rereading the disk conversion swap tech article and if i was reading it correctly the king pins are the same size. so pretty much all i have to swap out is the is the spindles, the front lines, and the proportioning valve. am i correct on this?

I can't say it's the same for all, but I did get so lucky with my 69. The donor was a 69 as well. I was planning the full swap, but when I saw that the king pins were the same (during tear down of the donor for rebuild), I just swapped the spindles and kept my purdier radius arms.

You would be correct on them being the same size king-pin. Therefore as you said all you need to swap is the spindles. From what I read all 67-74 1/2 ton trucks had .8592" x 6.353" king-pins .

Your right, thats what I was hoping to do. But couldn't find one. Now My kingpins are locked up and I dont have a press to push em out.

you could do what i did when i took the donor parts apart i used a BFH aka big f**king hammer and a socket extension and drove them out after soaking them in penetrating lube

on the king pins i have pulled out from parts trucks. i have used a torch to hea tup and cut the bearign on the lower part of the king pin. that is usually where they are stuck at and in the i beam. that can just be heated until it comes loose.

I remember the first time I used one of those fiddly "screw presses". Did one side and went back to the old friendly hot headed wrench and hammer. Now I don't pick up the hammer if I don't have to. Weird how our views change with our age aint it.

Just the same, many a King Pin has been replaced using "persuasion".

Your '69 tie rod ends won't fit correctly in the '73 spindles. It's explained in the disc brake swap tutorial.

right i have the entire front end from the 73 just trying to save some un needed work

Oh if you have the entire front end you might as well roll it under there. Easier that knocking the king pins out.
