2 wd- 4 wd conversion

Post by Loosie65 »

I have a 71 SWB 2 wheel drive. How hard would it be to convert it to 4 wheel drive. I might have access to a 77 full size long box. Would the suspension parts bolt up? Or am I looking at a lot of cutting and welding???
Thanks

Tons of threads on this. Look in the 4x4 section you will see a few.

To sum things up... If you do not have good welding/cutting skills, and don't have tons of time then don't try converting your 2wd chassis to 4wd. The two frames are nothing alike and you will have a lot of fabrication to do. Everyone is goign to tell you to swap your body onto a 4x4 chassis. You can put it on the dentside chassis, that is your best bet. It won't bolt directly on though. SteveC just put his bump body on a dent 4x4, maybe message him.

no the 2wd frames are different than the 4wd frames. because of the location of the crossmembers and the boxing of the frame sides from the frotn crossmember back to the radius arms.

Nope, totally different frames. A lot of fabrication involved.

Incorrect.

'60s Dodge trucks were set up like that, but not our Fords.
