Steerinng/Brake question

Post by crewcablover »

Hello all its been awhile since I was last on. Been so busy!!!!

Any how I will have all kinds of time on my hands here soon. I will get the time I need to start restoring my 1972 F250 4X4 CrewCab. So I have been on the look for a donor truck to turn mine into powersteering and disc brakes.

So I guess my question is, I have found a 1978 F250 4X4 XLT. I can get the whole truck. Will the whole front end go under my 1972? I know I say the with ease, but I know it would be work. If It wont fit I guess I lost on how I can turn my truck into powersteering and disc brakes.

Also will the tilt column fit out of the 78 into my 72?

I will have a lot question in the next few months. All the help I can get will be great. Maybe someday I can get to one of the meet and greets.

Thanks for the great web site!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep, that front end should bolt right up, AFAIK....and would be a great way to get power steering and disc brakes in one swoop.

The tilt steering column will physically bolt in, but there will be a few minor wiring changes that will need to be made. I'm planning on installing one into my '67 as well, so I've been collecting notes from here and there to help me get started. You can view them HERE. When I do get around to getting mine installed, I'll be writing up a full detailed tutorial, but until then, these notes will have to do. There are also a few forum members who have made this swap and can probably help answer specific questions about it.

...and welcome back! Take lots of pics while you're doing your upgrades, and be sure to share them. Please feel free to start up your own photo album in the Photo Gallery, so we can check out your progress. :D

You may need to do some light mods, driveline maybe but it is a good swap and you are getting a high pinion, getting rid of the old low pinion which is a good move. I would also use the married T-case if you can, and if it's a 205. That will get you some more ground clearance and eliminate some other problems inherrant to the divorced units.
Great ideas have always encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds.
