It's still available from Ford for about $20.

You do have to remove the steering wheel to replace those two parts. Some shift collars have a built-in pointer, so the entire shift collar has to be replaced to remedy a broken pointer. Other collars have a pointer that snaps into a groove along the top of the collar, but you'll need the steering wheel out of the way to get access to the groove.

68FORDJBM , like Keith said, the NSS trigger is still available from Ford. The re-pop units are about the same price.
I finished up a auto column a while back & found 3 broken triggers inside the column. They were inside rattling around for God knows how long.

Thanks all! My goal is to get the steering hooked back up to the gear box and transmission so I can move the thing out of the garage to finish prepping the cab - I need a garden hose. I should be able to install the column parts post-instal. Does anyone disagree with my logic?
My more immediate concern is that the male plug of the orginal (68) colum - the column that I'm putting back in the truck - has 7 prongs and the female end coming from the dash that was hooked up to the hold column has 6 holes. See photos below. What is the easiest way to match things up so the horn, blinkers, etc work?
What is the extra prong? Do I need it. Would it be easier to replace the male end or the female end or just wire the wires directly?
you have two different year plugs. the 7 plug is a 70-72 i think. and the 6 is a 67-69. there should be two plugs with the 6 plug. a 6 plug and a 2 plug.
You're correct. The truck came with another column (the 67-69 column). The previous owner bought the orginal column and was going to put it in since the truck is a 68 (I assume) Also, because he couldn't get the turn signals to work. I'm just trying to do what the previous owner didnt. The 67-69 column does have two plugs on the column. The 2-plug is for the NSS. How can I make the orginal column work? I'm not much of an electrician. I really don't want to replace the female (6-prong end) if I don't have to, but I'll do what I have to do to make it work.
you can de pin the plugs. to get the wires out of them and just use which plugs you need to use. i wasnt refering to the nss plug when i was talkign abotu the plugs. let me go find a picture on the site.
Okay, those pics got me back on track. Pictured below is the column I need to put back in the truck since it has the correct plugs. Can someone tell me how to remove the part indicated in the first picture so you can replace the selector dial and inspect the wiring connections? I think I'm missing some parts inside there to but I won't know until I get it apart and post more pics. Also, Can someone tell me how to get the steering wheel off the column in the second picture and on to the column in the first picture. I can't figure out how to remove the horn ring assembly? Thanks.
the first pic probably has a leen screw or something holding it on. that is a grant or similar steering wheel adapter.
in the secong pic you take the horn ring and puch down and turn. that will reveal a nut. rmove the nut. get a steerign wheel puller tool and use it to pull the steering wheel off.

Even on the first one, it's probably held on exactly like a stock wheel. Try using a steering wheel puller on it, too.

Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???

Unless you REALLY want to buy one, just use the loan-a-tool program from Advance or AutoChina.

Happy New Year! Now it's back to the steering column:
The column and coresponding plugs (bottom pic) are from a 67-69 (according to previous posts) which makes sense because its in a 68 F-100. I want to put the wheel (top pic) from the 70-72 column on the 67-69 coulmn. I'll be removing the aftermarket steering wheel and adaptor. My turn signal and horn doesn't work and I'd like to fix while I have everything apart, but I'm having trouble identifying what parts I should get to do the job. I know that I need to replace the shift indicator and pointer since they are definetly broken. Not sure if I need a turn signal switch, flashers or other parts. Any ideas?
If I change the turn signal switch I'll need tool number C4AZ-17018-B according to the manual. Where can I find or is there a substitute?
