Sure.

Swap in a open knuckle disc brake frontend.

5or 6 years ago, while I was searching for info on Disk Brake upgrades, I did run across info regarding Disk Brakes for the Closed Knuckle front ends, but I didn't need that info and passed by. The info you want is out there, but I don't remember where. Maybe somebody will chime in with some good info for you.

eggman918,

Your answer might be over here:

I believe some of those guys are actually running chebby brakes on the older D-44's.
Not sure how hard the conversion is though...

I am a fan of the closed knuckle, they are very tough Timken bearings vs ball joints.also I have a spare so I want to keep it.

The 3500# closed knuckle 44's are pretty stout I don't blame you for wanting to keep it. Thier trunnions hold up better than balljoints when taken good care of, but if the drums don't do it for you I don't think the GM disc option is that hot. The GM single piston car, 1/2 or 3/4 ton (those are all the same caliper) discs are a bit anemic for a fullsize truck IMO.

If I were inclined to do it I would bore and redrill each knuckle (if possible) to accept the ford 5 bolt spindle pattern. The 80's and 90's twin piston calipers work very well, I would try to use those. All Ford 3/4 and 1 ton 4x4 rotors are the same from 76 through 97 except the change to 9/16" lugs in 1980.

For all that work you will still have a low pinion 44 up front though. I don't care much for 44 balljoints either, I saved my pocket change and bought a kingpin HP 60. With the economy in the crapper right now is the time to buy a 78-79 60 for a fair price.

I looked at my neighbors f-350 the calipers bolt up with 2 bolts,so I think that fabricating mounts to fit my 6 bolt circle to the calipers is my first plan .That way I can match rotor offset .Thanks again for the input .
