Re: IFS options
I would just build my own using a t-bird rear or a cobra rear. I doubt it's hard to mount.
I almost had one but I had already done my linked suspension.

Re: IFS options
What the hell sorry about that, I was just looking at some IRS on another site and got your topic mixed.
I have used the fat man kit and I think it is a very reliable kit.
The other two kits you listed look like it's something I would not hesitate to
use if I had the money and another project.
Im sure you have heard of the crown victoria front end, they bolt right in and cost less money! it's like if ford made them for
our trucks.

Re: IFS options
Wow! I knew nothing about the Crown Victoria front end. I looked at another site and found one thread about it. It looks like the way to go for an economical ifs. Has anyone on here done this?
I started hunting around a little bit for one and emailed several salvage yards in my area but nobody has a cv front suspension. What about engine and trans mounts? I want to use the 302 I already have and build an AOD. Would this work?
Thanks again Marz68.

Re: IFS options
the 65 and 66 frames are the same and those guys are pushing the crown vic fronts and the dodge dakota kits. i personally think the twin i can do everything they can and more. heck, ford used the twin i for thirty years with little change, and managed to out perform the mustang gt and camaro irocs with it. gotta love that.

Hmmm.
Whaddya mean Ezer?

the only suspension difference was a unique radius arm to allow for the factory lowering. along with a thicker frame and a 1" sway bar this truck killed the camaro, mustang gt and hung dead even with the base corvette in 93-95 on the skid pad and slalom. not bad for a 4400 lb truck. (yep, that's 600lbs heavier than ours).

Yea but a 94 Lightening is a BIT different from our 67-72's. You think your twin I-beam can stay with a Lightening?

I remember when that Lightning came out and something that was pretty revolutionary back then was that it was the first truck to sport 17" wheels! Huge back then!ezernut9mm wrote:mike68merc wrote:I-beams beat Mustangs & IROCs ?

To the original question... before I decided on the CrownVic IFS I planned on getting the Fatman kit. You can get it complete or only buy crossmember and piece it together to save some money.

Re: IFS options
I own a crown vic cop car, they handle like a slot car, considering they are HUGE.the springs and sway bar are winners.I think they would work well in a Bump

Re: IFS options
If you find a donor cop car the computer in them does not have a MPH Governor mine will bury the calibrated 140 mph speedo still pulling strong! I have owned some fast cars....but the vic is scary fast not real quick. So if you get one it might help fund your project.so if you are not running a computer motor Ebay it

Re: IFS options
maybe not right now, but i'll bet a twin i with good lowering springs, big sway bars and decent tires would go a long way better than factory. i wasn't suggesting one could hang with a gen 1, but i personally think the twin i suspension isn't worth replacing unless you are getting radical like marz is.fuzzier1 wrote:Yea but a 94 Lightening is a BIT different from our 67-72's. i also don't have any problems with folks doing a suspension swap, but remember the crown vic is wider and has a different bolt pattern. so you will have to use a different rear too to keep the track width right and bolt patterns similar.
other front ends used include the aerostar and dodge dakota.

Great discussion!
It's neat to see topics discussed by so many well informed & experienced members!
--Thanks Ezer for the explaination on the Lightnings.
--Marz, you're an Evil Genius! Your truck is wicked & you've got Mad skills....Also appreciate your ongoing work on YOUR custom IFS!
--jgf100, your CV build & longbed-shortbed conversion read like a Tech article in a magazine....Not just an interesting topic, but executed with Craftsmanship & also very well documented & explained!
I'm not looking for a date to the Prom, so I'll wipe my brown nose off now & let the discussion continue.
