Parking brake ?

Post by Supermike »

Hey guys,

Just a quick - and I hope easy - parking brake question. I just got new shoes put all the way around, and a new drum and adjuster kit on the right side. I don't do brake work yet (I need to rely on stopping... haha), so I don't know if this is "normal" or not... but since getting the work done, my parking brake went from going almost to the floor, to now I just *barely* get it to set with one or two clicks.

So... this may be a silly question, but is that normal? Is it simply because the new shoes have little wear right now, and will assumingly depress further as they wear in? :?

Thanks!

Yes this is normal, for the reason you described.

The mechanics could have also adjusted the parking brake cables to raise the PB pedal height after the brake job.

Cool.... thanks! I was hoping it was just a normal "symptom" of new brakes. I haven't had new brakes in this truck since I got it, but I HAD noticed the PB had gotten less "effective" in the past year. lol!
