Mustang Fuel Tank Install (Pics)

Hey BobbyFord! I'll bet if you were to produce a batch of those frames you could sell them very easily! I'm sure a kit that would help people implement this rear Mustang tank would be very popular.

But perhaps the time it takes to make each frame would offset the benefits for you?

No clearance issues of any kind on this fuel tank install. The tank sits well behind the diff.

Question: is this a gravity feed tank? If not, what did you do?
if it is, have you had a problem with your engine getting fuel?

In fact, I've never had a flat in my life. I've had leaks but never an all-out flat.

ive been lookn into these for a while..but two things keep me from doing it...
1. im going with and efi conversion...not sure if that sending unit will work..:/ i do have the sending unit from a doner car..i wonder if i can get it welded on top or sumthang...
2. im running air bags and i would had to drop it in the back and for the dam thing to catch fire if it scrapes..

whats the height on it...

Are you asking for the dimensions of the tank itself?

I have a couple of questions. On the rear corner tabs,do they sit the tank frame up about an 1/8" or does the whole frame lay flat on the truck frame? Thanks,and BTW looks GREAT!

The tank frame sits up in the rear the thickness of that metal nut hole pictured above.
That is actually the bottom side of the tank frame that you see; that nut hole secures the rear of the tank frame to the truck frame. The rear-most bolt seen below bolts the rear crossmember to the truck frame, the bolt just forward of it is the rear tank frame mounting bolt:


On the sides of the tank frame, where the access holes were made to weld in nuts, flat stock was tacked along the sides to cover up the access holes and add ridgidity and overall strength to the tank frame.

Ok, one more question, if you have the box lifted up to slide the tank in, then you set the box down, are you able to get access to the 2 box bolts located just behind the rear axle? Not the ones at the very back underneath, the next set forward. It looks like maybe a set of really small hands might be able to reach over the frame and put a nut on the box bolt??

I plan on having a roll pan so I won't be able to just take off the back bumper and slide the tank out.

All of the nuts are either welded into the tank frame or welded to the truck frame so that it is not necessary to get a wrench on the nut anywhere:

I understand about the fuel tank frame, I meant the box bolts themselves, because they cannot be turned from above because they are a carriage head bolt.



I guess you could just put a regular bolt in place of the originals.
