Brakes pulling to the right?

Post by wobblefoot »

I replaced the master cylinder because it was leaking.Brakes were fine for 5 or 6 months.
Just the other day my truck started pulling to the right, when applying the brakes.
Thinking the front brake lines were collapsing, because they were severely cracked and just old I replaced them,I properly bled the brake lines, checked the front wheel cylinders, shoes, etc.Everything was fine.Again I bled them to make sure I did it right.
Drove the truck not even a mile and it started to pull to the right again.Re bled the lines and it still pulls to the right.
Then I jacked the truck up in the front and Im wondering if the kingpin should have movement.
The left side when I grab the tire on top and bottom, like I was checking tie rods the I beam tries to move.
But when I do the right side (pass) side I notice there's a tiny bit of movement in the kingpin (just enough that I would think it might be the problem)Because it doesn't try to move the I beam like the other side.
Just wondering if anybody could help me just not sure,If its kingpins I'm going to do the disc conversion but I didn't want too at this time because of Xmas.
I was also thinking would the proportioning valve have anything to do with it? :?

Are the drums adjusted equally ?
Try cranking the star wheel until you can hear them start to drag when spinning them by hand. :2cents:

Keith, one thing is not mentioned there, and should have been.

Drums can develop "hot spots" that are basically a flaw in the casting.

When turning drums, they can be seen as a spot that the lathe doesn't cut.

Years ago, the AMMCO lathes had an attachment with a grinding wheel for surfacing the metal in these hot spots.

Basically, it's cast material that has hardened more than the area around it so that it cannot be cut with a standard lathe.

These areas will also cause brakes to pull, as they develop over time, and will not demonstrate the same wear properties as the cast material around them.

I know that you got this information from a Ford TSB, but it's something the Ford engineers overlooked during their research and diagnostic information.
Wise men talk because they have something to say; fools talk because they have to say something.--Plato
Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???

That's not an oil leak :nono: That's SWEAT from all that HORSEPOWER!!
