Was your truck originally a auto tranny truck ? If so, yes, you will have to wire around the NSS.
If your just going from a 3 on the tree to a floor shift 4 speed & are using the auto steering column because its a P/S column, you dont even need the NSS.
The 3spd & 4 spd trucks dont have any kind of lockout like the NSS on the auto trucks.
Hope that makes sense.

your 3 spd truck wont have a nss in it. the plug is capped off from the factory with a looped plug. puttign in a auto column you can just unplug the looped plug and plug in the nss from the auto column. but if you are using a 4 spd trans you wont need the nss switch on the column so you wont have to do anything.
