Return lines are non pressurized so if you have the fitting that goes into the box you can use some regular hose for the return. I did mine this way and have had no problems with it at all. I do have some pics of it in my gallery if you want to look.

all the seals for the bendix's were the same year to year, regardless of exterior mounting equipment?

As far as I know all the Bendix boxes are interchangable and parts should be too, from 1965 on. Now if they made some for different applications then I wouldn't plan on those being interchangable.

.........finally gave up on the shop. picked it up, no power steering. no right tail light(this was working when delivered). something is still leaking from my thermostat housing too. I cannot not find anyone to rebuild it, nor a shop will to take it off and house the truck while it is repaired at a mailaway place. ford now I may be done messing with it. honestly if it were not my families I would have gotten rid of it a long time ago and found another one. no one part is worth this much trouble. I found a ford box but it was non power steering. I always think I have a solution, only to find out that one thing about it is wrong I worked on the t-stat housing 4 times they fixed it once, and it still is broken. I now have 1 functioning vehicle out of three. I wonder how long it will take for it to break too?

If it is a return there is not much pressure, a shop should be able to build you one with a sinple flaring kit and some hose. Dont let some shops fool you.

Seems it would be more practical to replace the steering box with a ford (saginaw) and change the column. It's not that difficult to do. The info you need is in the tech section of this site.

A thermostat housing that won't seal is usually one of two things:
warped or cracked thermostat housing. replacement should be available at parts house.

Or bolt holes are full of crud, not letting the bolts make up completley They can usually be cleaned out with a tap.

I have looked into that but there is only one 67-72 i know of that is complete enough todo that. it has no power steering though. so i'm not sure that it would work.

Sorry to hear things aren't panning out. It is tough to find someone else that will do good work on an old vehicle, or any vehicle sometimes. If you read most of the threads you have probably noticed that most of us do our own wrenching. And also that we spend a fair amount of time in junkyards and following up leads. I haven't ran a want ad but you might as it does seem to get results. If I was able I would come get it and do all the stuff for you, but I am headed to Mississippi to work on Monday and will (hopefully) be hooked up for the next year or so.
I hate to ever advise anyone away from old trucks but if you are not inclined to tinker it just may not be your thing. Maybe you parents will keep it stored until one of us can come help you out.

tinkering i like. messing up i don't. I have a better understanding of engine related things and get by on that end ok i guess. i would have taken it out, but i have no real idea where to start . it seemed if i took it off that bracket above it it would hang on the column. i figured that would not be good. i actually still need a set shop manuals. I've been
pre-occupied with parts though. i lack a shop thats big i suppose. i guess I do more maintainance than what could be considered actual work.

I installed my power steering on the lawn. There is lots you can do without a shop. Maybe a good set of shop manuals would help. Find them on ebay all the time. Avoid partial sets as they will no doubt be missing the volume you need the most.
