I'd say you probably have incorrect wheels which don't have the proper backspacing.

I got that same problem now. I'm not worried about it until I get the front end swapped out. I'd start by measuring the back spacing you currently have and go from there. Let's say that it's 5", See if you can find a wheel that has a back spacing of 4.5". I'm just throwing these numbers out as I'll be using 35x14.50 on 9.75x 16.5 steel wheels with about a 5.5" back space. I may have to find wheels with a shorter back space.

Actually, I think it's about half normal...
My 68 has always done that, and it's got
stock tires, and the front end is totally rebuilt
and aligned. It still slightly rubs the insides of
both tires. I consider it normal myself, and
wouldn't worry about it. I'm not sure about the steering
stops though. I never really looked into that. But
I *think* mine are ok. The rub is just enough to
"smooth" the tire surface, and doesn't seem to
hurt anything. I assume it only does it with full
lock turns. I don't worry about it much.

Mine did it with the stock split rims.
When I rebuilt and went to solid stock
wheels, the rub was exactly the same.
