I - Beams, Straight?

Post by DuckRyder »

Are the front I beams supposed to be essentially straight? Mine both seem to have a slight kink approximately where the relief in the arm ends toward the chassis pivot. One seems slightly more so than the other does.

I am trying to determine if they are bent, if they are, I'll look for a donor disc front end, if not I'll probably shell out for a new Master Power conversion sine I am expecting time will be at a premium very soon.

No, there's supposed to be a slight bend in them. That's to get both wheels sitting in the same place in relation to each other. Without that bend, one wheel would be several inches farther forward in the wheelwell than the other.

Hmm, I'll have to crawl under there again (I tried to take pictures earlier) but I think the bend is at the other end...

If only I could get the Mercedes off the ramps. (any body got a ZF 722.408 transmission pump in their pocket?)

If that bend in the beam is close to the pivot, then the beam is bent, the bend is by the mounts for the wishbones,(like the pics above)then the beam should be straight all the way to the pivot, looks like the drivers side beam is bent and that means either someone hit something,a bent beam was installed,or it was bent by a alinement center to aline it.The bushing is shot and the bolt probably is too.

If your getting somewhat normal tire wear and no major pulling to one side they are fine. Mine look simalar to to what you have.
