Vacuum Adjust Thinga-ma-bob

Post by theogre5150 »

Ok,

I have an little idea of what this thing does. When I let off the gas, I notice that this spring moves in:

Someone please explain to me what this is, and how should it be adjusted.

Thanks,
Eric

Yes, it's part of the distributor modulation system, also known at the TRS (Transmission-Regulated Spark) setup, but I'm not entirely sure how this particular component does in the system. Here's a couple schematics from the MPC that I just posted. It does seem to be an I6 and 302-only piece, the bigger V8s didn't have this.

(Basic Part Number 12A111)

As you can see in that schematic, yours is missing the cover.

I also have a '71 TRS mechanic's training brochure, but it doesn't show this component either. :hmm: I'll do some poking around and see what I can find out.

Yeah, had the cover until recently. It fell off about a month ago.

You should adjust it by throwing it in the trash.

Ya, my buddy had one on his '69 with a 302 in it. It was on the truck for about a week, then we trashed it.
Locate approximately as shown.
