12127 is the Basic Part Number for a distributor. The other number is the date code. Neither of those will tell you what it fits.

However, if it's for an FE, that's all it's gonna fit. Well, it'll also fit an FT (medium-duty) truck engine, if you use an adapter bushing.

This is a distributor I pulled from a '68 parts truck a few years ago. I noticed that the engine was a collection of parts from three different decades worth of FE's, from the cast-in engineering numbers and date codes. I wrote it all down so I could do some research on them, and found out (from 'hawkrod') that the distributor in this engine was a very rare and valuable CJ/SCJ piece...I wound up selling just the distributor for $450!

Anyway, you can see the Basic Part Number cast into the housing. There should also be a prefix and a suffix cast the housing on each side of the Basic Part Number. The prefix and suffix will decode to the specific application. In my case, I learned there are only two distributors made for CJ/SCJ: D0ZF-12127-C and D0ZF-12127-G, first one is for a stick and second is for an auto trans. Mine was the 'C' version for a manual trans, and it also had a premium date code of '9G24' (July 24, 1969) which makes it for a very-early '70, which is much better because there were more early cars than late cars. (More expensive cars sell at the begining of the model year usually!).

I don't have the numbers here to decipher what you've got, but if you post the numbers, I'll bet we can figure it out.

And yes, it'll fit all FE's...including the 428. (Not sure on the 427 though.)

the numbers are: dotp 12127 9h26 can anyone decode this? also the other one that is in the truck is a motorcraft, with 12127 stamped into it is it a rare gem? i am asking because funds have started to run low on the project and i have a ton of parts that i need to sell, it would be a shame to miss out on an opportunity.

thank you!!
