how to convert hot air choke to electric?

Can I convert an Autolite 2100 carb to electric choke?

After reading about problems with the hot air choke tubes (which mine has the same problems, i.e. it's no longer connected) I think I'd rather switch to electric but I'm not sure if there's a kit for that or how I'd go about doing that.

All you really need to do is go buy 2 feet' of 1/4" ID brake tubing, a foot of rubber 1/4" hose and a couple hose clamps. Carefully bend the tube in a 'U' shape and clamp that to the exhaust manifold pointing the legs up towards the carb. Use the rubber tubing to connect the new heat stove to your existing plumbing and make sure it has the vacuum draw through the choke tube and it'll work as original.

the power for an electric choke comes from the stator lug ont he back of the alternator. thats all you do to make it work.

Ok, I may go the original tube route that sounds pretty simple.

If I did go electric can I just buy an electric replacement choke cap like this holley 45-258?



And that will fit where the existing heat operated one goes and I run the electric?

I was really close to changing my 2100 to a manual choke about two weeks ago, but I did some reading on how to adjust it and now it's working really well. I press the gas pedal all the way down once, start it and feather the throttle 3-4 times and it settles in to a smooth idle. At that point I can put it in gear and drive away.

If you change it over to an electric actuated type, you will have to plug off the very small hole in the housing that creates the vacuum to keep the hot air moving past the element that you presently have in there, the vacuum is not needed with the electric setup. And as has been mentioned, feed the hot from the stator terminal on the Alt.

How do you identify the " stator" terminal on the alternator? I know which one the ground is.

it is close to the ground terminal and it has an S beside it. or it is suppose ot have an S beside it.

I put the rebuild carb back on and the new modified hot tube system I put together.

It seems to work pretty well, the truck started up and ran a lot smoother, was still a little stumbly so I went ahead and changed the condenser and points and that made it run smoother still.

There' still a very very slight roughness but it's loads better than it was.

When I took off the hot air choke tube, in the bend near the carb connection it was pretty much stopped up with carbon.

There was a good amount of carbon in the choke cap and the spring had carbon all in it. I doubt the choke spring had moved in years.
