engine swap?

Post by LANCE65 »

Ok, I think I have come to a decision about the drivetrain in my '69. Currently I have a 390/C6. It has an Edelbrock performer intake,Holley 600,DS II,headers. I want to swap it out and put a 300 inliner in place w/manual trans. Looking for mileage and coolness factor. Besides, it will cure my exhaust problem I have using headers and auxillary tank on my truck.
What would be a good combo? I also dont mind the thought of EFI,but which years are best? Also is the 6 banger bellhousing specific? I know the FE wont work, but what about small block? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

I have read anywhere from 15-24 depending on your driving habits.

What problem do you have with the headers and tank? I have Hedman headers and dual pipes using glasspack mufflers exiting out behind the wheels. Now if you want to exit before the rear wheels then I could see the problem.

You just need to either run the exhaust pipes down the passenger side like this:

...or run the right-side pipe on the outside of the frame, shown in Figs. 6, 7 and 8 on this page:
