390 CFM Holley 4bbl
Any of you guys ever ran one of these little 4bbls? http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HLY-0 ... mage=large
I didnt even know they made one this small. Holley Model 4160 Adjustable Float Carburetor.
Think it would be good for a .030 over 302/351w with a mild cam & performer intake? What do you guys think. Summit has a "kit" & they reccomend using a 670cfm carb. Seems like overkill for a basically stock windsor to me.
I would like to stick with Holley carbs. Im not a Edeljunk fan at all.
Opinions.....

Re: 390 CFM Holley 4bbl
It depends on what kind of RPM's you are planning on running I think. I run an 1850-600 on the mild 460 in my F100 and love it but I don't turn high rpm's I like low end torque and gears.
I bet the 390 would be very responsive and have a real crisp throttle. A 450 might be a better choice though. I think that is the right cfm if not it is close to that.
They get a little harder to dial in for me when they get small like that. Seems they tend to run rich for some reason to do with the smaller ventura which is bass-ackwards to me.
I am still tinkering with the 600 once in a while when I have nothing else to do trying to lean it out a bit but I am happy with it. Tried a 750 I had and though I know it was faster up top I lost the crispness down low I like. I really didn't spend as much time on it as usual though
Once you get it right I bet you would love it

Its going to be a basically stock 302. The motor will be lucky to see much over 4k RPM's.
What size is the motocraft 2100 2bbl thats on it now ?

Go with the holley 390 cfm. If it's rarely going see 4,000 rpms your not going to like a 600 cfm. Think drivability, bigger is not better for carbs.

Re: 390 CFM Holley 4bbl
I agree completely. Most people with mild to a little hotter have too large a carb on their engines. A dual plane intake hides this in a lot of cases. I think it is one reason so many people say they hate a Holley carb. They have always put too big a carb on and never got it tuned in right

Re: 390 CFM Holley 4bbl
for the lowdown on the 390 cfm go here
http://fordsix.com/forum/
look in the 240/300 six forum
lots of them being ran on 300 6's
they are pricey
the mdl 1850 600 cfm is a good match for 302 or 351--they can be found and rebuilt cost effectively--i think the new mdl # for the 1850 is 4160--be sure to get the one with external float adjustment

Re: 390 CFM Holley 4bbl
I am running the 1850 on my 460. I had it on a 302, 2 351W's and now the 460.
Good all around carb. The 390's are pretty much the same thing just smaller base plate and venturas as far as I can see and read in my Holley bible.
Dose the 2100 have a slightly smaller base bolt pattern than the 2150?

No, I think they had the same bolt pattern throughout the 2100 series.cdeal28078 wrote:I am running the 1850 on my 460. I had it on a 302, 2 351W's and now the 460.Good all around carb. Re: 390 CFM Holley 4bbl
I was wondering about that. Years ago when my truck still had a 302 2v I came across another 2v Autolite carb. It would not fit my mounting pad on the intake. It was just slightly too large for the bolts to fit. So I thought maybe that was a 2150.
Guess it was some weird carb from something else. Maybe off a Dodge since they used a lot of Ford stuff
