Snapped Exhaust manifold bolts
Need some help as to what is the easiest way to approach the stuck bolts I have. I know I have to drill and tap out but 2 of the ones I have to drill and tap out are hard to get at. So my question is what would be the best way to get to the bolts. The 1st one is easy, driver side top closest to PS pump the other 2 are top nearest to fire wall and its hard to get to these. Is it best to get to these from under neath or from the top? Youve got the steering column, PB,PS, all on that side. Want to start on this job on this coming weekend Sat 17th.

I used a 90 degree drill attachment with a short drill bit. It really beat the cr*p out of my hand. Robert's right, it's easier to pull the head.

Depending on how you want to look I've seen people (not me ) use a torch to make the hole and a bolt and nut, or a small clamp.
I'd try a 90 degree drill first before I'd pull the head.
If you pull the heads you might as well do a valve job and in put hardened seats.

Re: Snapped Exhaust manifold bolts
easiest way is to just pull the heads. never hurts to check piston surface and a new head gaskets never hurt.

Re: Snapped Exhaust manifold bolts
i will list the options i can think of.
1 pull the head . already stated.
2 pull the engine out.
3 remove the fender and inner fender
4ignore them and use vise grips to hold it all in place. until you can do the work.
other warnings:
never remove those bolts in the first place.
always use pentrating oil on the botls and let them soak. always heat up the engine before you start.
use the bee's wax method. heat up the engine and melt bee's wax over the threads of the botls. it will seep into the threads and make the bolt come out. i heard this works.
