I would love to hear his explanation of how removing the plug wire would affect a rocker or pushrod.

Looks like I can't give you guys an answer on that, not tonight anyway.
So I was on my way to go show that guy the noise. About 2 miles into the drive the engine starts running like crap. I stop in a gravel turn off and pop the hood and there is gas pouring out of the carb. Take the top hat off, reset the needle and float, put it back in and it runs... kinda. Made it back home barely. So now I am back to where I was two weeks ago.
Float is intact, needle valve is seated and functioning. Where do I go from here? I just cleaned and rebuilt it.

Did you replace the fuel filter when you rebuilt the carb?

Before you look for another block keep in mind it'll need to have an opening for a mechanical fuel pump, and drilled and tapped for a clutch pivot stud.

I opened the carb and guess what? There was a spec of crap where the needle seats. Sprayed it out, reinstalled and got a new fuel filter for good measure (old one wasn't even dirty after 10+ years). Drove to the gas station and filled the tank back up- drives fine now.
As for the noise I won't be able to report back on that till Friday. Have military stuff to do.

I'm with DR on this but let us know. 85 means a rebuild where I come from.
To bad you are on the other side of the sun soldier or I'd give you a V8 setup I have for sale. Perches to drive shafts brother for doing what you do. Square you away so to speak.
