Does anyone know where the wiring for the temp sender is supposed to come from (what side of wiring loom and approximately near what) and what colors the wires are? My temp sender is diconnected and I cant find where its supposed to connect to. My truck is a 1970, 302.

it comes out of the center of the firewall with the wires fo rthe coil and oil temp. the color is either red or red with white stripe. you would have to check the diagrams for the exact color. i get them mixed up.

Thats the only wire I see there.
If that is the temp sender then what is this?
Or do I have them mixed up?

So do you think that thing in last pic can be safely removed and plugged? Just wish I knew what it was for, hopefully its just a emisions thing that is not needed any more.

A sending unit screwed into the cooling system with ONE stem (or wire connector) would be providing a variable resistance to ground as the temperature changed. This would operate a Gauge.
A sending unit with TWO stems will be an on/off type of switch that reacts to the water temperature. This type of sender historically was used to operate a HOT/COLD Light on the dash. (Like a 1965-70 Galaxie)
On later cars (when gauges became more universal) a two prong sender might be used to do something like turn on/off an electric vacuum valve that might turn the vacuum advance off or on depending on temperature. It could also be used to operate a high idle solenoid depending on whether the motor was hot or cold. Anything that needs to be turned on/off electrically in relationship to water temperature.
Can it be removed? Well Yeah, it aint connected to anything.
HOWEVER . . . . since it most likely is screwed into the water passage if you pull it out you will need to plug the hole with something else.
