adjusting carb,

im trying to adjust fuel mixture, got it to a point where idle is lower and if i turn mixture screw it should idle higher from here, should i raise it more to raise idle more or turn the idle screw on side of carb . , timing is really off ,,, its slow. i dont have timing light

You want to adjust the mixture screws so you get the highest idle possible. Once that is achieved then you can bump the idle down with the idle screw. Then repeat the process until you get the max idle with the mixture screws again and get your desired idle.
