My Autolite 1100 nightmare

Post by Xybris »

This is only the second carburetor I've rebuilt (first being one of those Honda Accord carbs from back in the day) and it's all going wrong. Other than it basically falling apart before my eyes there are issues with the accelerator pump that I can't work out. It pumps but the gas goes no where. I see that the gas is supposed to go through the check valve thing and up into the passage on the top hat piece of the carb but that's not happening. I've sprayed the passage with cleaner and put an air compressor on it but it won't budge. Is it time to junk the carb or take it somewhere?

in my opinion only. the carb should be soaked atleast overnight to get all the goo and stuck parts moveable again before just replacing gaskets. did you try any carb cleaner to get everything clear?

I was thinking about getting a bucket of carb cleaner and soaking it again. I had it in solvent all afternoon and then went over it with carb cleaner spray in all the passages. I'm not very familiar with this carb so I didn't know what to look for.

i didnt know you had saoked it. the accelorator pump will sqiurt fuel out fo the jets thing in the carb. that is what gives it it burst of fuel for acceloration. i am not famliar with 1bbl carb. so when you say check ball i am lost. a wooden toothpick is good to use when tring to clean junk out of lawn mower carbs. i dont know if that will help you get any of the passages clear or not.

According to the diagram, the check ball is a BB like thing that acts as a valve. There are three of them throughout the carb. Now that I think about it I probably misread the diagram and the BB got sucked up the passage and is causing the block... I don't know- it's too dark outside now.
