the 64 1/2 can be told by its door handles and ho they were moutned. they are moutned half way down where as the true 65 was mounted straight. this is pretty close to what i heard back in the 70's from a guy who owned one.

didn't the 1/2 have a bench seat that was bolted down? - my truck runs hot too, I was going to try just that fill-drain-repeat thing

i've never heard of the doorhandle thing i will have to check it out. as for the overheating, i think i've got it beat for now. the block will need a good flush next spring but for now it works. now i've just gotta get good at driving the three-in-the-tree!!! and put some new shoes on the old girl.

Didn't somebody ask something about overheating, like 20 posts back? They used to sell some acidic flush at the auto parts store that did a pretty good job of flushing out the junk. You have to flush all the antifreeze out first, dump this stuff in, then get it good and hot with it in the system. Then you flush it again. I can't remember who makes it, but I'm not sure if the mass chain stores carry it. I used to buy it from a independantly owned place. Also, remember to REPLACE THAT THERMOSTAT! It may be sticking if it's been sitting a long time. Good luck!

thanks (fomocoguy) i will definetly keep that suggestion in mind. my thermostate was a little gross so all i did was hit it with some WD40 and a soft wire brush and that seemed to help. shes not overheating so far.

test it in a pan of boiling water and a thermometer - you will soon see if it opens and at the correct temp
