water pump woes
Hey guys, got a 360 old water pump was FOMOCO new pump is of course aftermarket. the old and new are shaped different, on the inlet throat. The new new one wont accommodate a double pulley. I tried to grind a little off so the pulley would fit and i ruined the new pump. all aftermarket seem to be shaped the same way. is there a replacement pump that is the same as the old FOMOCO? ![Confused :?](./images/smilies/icon_confused.gif)

Re: water pump woes
take the guts seals and so forth out of the new one and put them in the old one. well thats not right and i know it. it will probably not work or leak all over the place. i bet they got the parts in the wrong boxes. either that or there is a different pump for p/s. check with another parts place.

Re: water pump woes
Well pics would have helped but now that I ground a hole in it it doesnt look like it did when i purchased it.
I am going to put the old one back on. The whole thing started when i was replacing my A/C compressor. I thought while i was that far involved with the front of the engine it would be wise to change an old water pump, sort of preventive maint. Anyway the old one was working fine, I just thought i was being smart and heading off potential problems( instead i created more) ![Rolling Eyes ](./images/smilies/icon_rolleyes.gif)

Re: water pump woes
Look at the casting number on the old one and determine what model it was on. I had a similar situation with my water pump. I bought a new one and its wouldn't bolt up to the timing cover. I figured out (pretty easily) that the timing cover matched the block that came out of a 68 Torino, so I got that one and it bolted up fine (except for the fact that it rubbed my harmonic balancer so I had to grind off a 1/16th.
Check out my build. http://s1088.photobucket.com/albums/i336/MyF100/
