what kind of cap is it? twist and turn or push in? its probably off of a different engine if its a twist and turn type. or the whoel engine is out of a dentsdie. that cap looks like a dentside cap. heres a 1970 240 from 3 sides.

Looks like someone just swapped places with the filler cap and the pcv valve. Just change them back around.

It's got to be something like that. Here's a 300 in a '77. Is the Powered By Ford readable from the left side like this one?

You can't turn the valve cover around, so it is installed correctly. Look at the air cleaner; it still has the vent hose leading to the front location where it's supposed to be going into the top of the oil cap. The "rear" cap that is in it is from a much newer model. I just parted an 83 mustang GT and the 5.0 had that exact cap. That valve cover must be from a much newer engine model, as the holes are different and the pcv grommet will not go into the same hole that an oil cap will twist into. Probably an early eighties 300 valvecover; that's my guess anyway.
