I would have plastiguaged the new bearing. Ford used to sell bearings that were in small undersize increments, like .003-.007 iirc. good for tightening things up. If the crank felt rough it will be egg shaped.
Great ideas have always encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds.

Hello guys! I haven't posted any updates in a long time, so I thought update this thread. It's been a pretty crazy year, I had a little heart attack  last december and spent a few days in the hospital getting all fixed up. Anyway, the knock in the new 390 came back and considering I felt pretty weak still, (after the heart thing) I decided I'd take the truck to local shop and let them fix it. BIG MISTAKE! It took 4 weeks to get it back and on the first drive I took it on it started knocking again. I had it towed back to the same shop and told them to call me up when they got it right. This time they had it 5 weeks, but so far no knocks. I've driven it all summer but never could get it to run the way a new 390 should. I couldn't get it timed right and it had a kind of a little miss. Then after changing the oil and checking the plugs and points I found out why, The #2 and #3 plugs were loose, not even finger tight, the points weren't gapped right and a plug wire had been pulled apart and not fixed, just pushed back in the boot. I couldn't get the oil filter off no matter what I tried, I finally had to remove the filter housing and use a 24" pipe wrench to get it to break loose and a screw driver to pry the gasket off the face of the housing. (no oil on the gasket and tightened Way too tight!) Then after not being able to get the timing set right I noticed the rotor wasn't pointing at the #1 cylinder, it never had been stabbed right when they put the engine back together! Everything those goof balls at that shop touched needed to be redone. But after two days of work in my driveway it's running like it should be, lots of power and idling perfect! Oh yeah, and I'm running like I should be too, lots of power and idling perfect. :D

Why is it that there's seldom time to fix it right the first time, but there's always time to fix it right the second time???

That's not an oil leak :nono: That's SWEAT from all that HORSEPOWER!!

I really thought about sueing them, but thats not me. In years past I would have found the guy and knocked him on his a** but not any more. I just tell everyone I meet how crappy their work is and not take their vehicles to him if they want them to run right. :x

At least file a complaint with the BBB.

In most states, they have a separate division for motor vehicle complaints.

I'm sure you have lots of friends and acquaintances, but it's sort of like a rapist. If you don't stop him, he'll commit the crime again.

Whose daughter will it be next time?
