I was looking at your pics and first let me say super fine truck! Now let me bother you a sec if I could. When you did the PS conversion you mentioned having to cut and weld the drag link. I wonder if it would be possible to machine a new drag link rod and fit it with the screw-on ends like a tie rod? I am a machinist by trade and this would be as simple as drilling and threading the ends of say a piece of 4140 rod. What do you think?
The reason in asking this is the donor truck I am getting has the power steering box. And I thought I was going to get a 78 F250 parts truck but I may not be able to now, and this is my alternative plan.
Last question: what kind of speakers are those mounted in the cab pillars?

I think Heep has gone to his country cabin for a week. so you may not get an answer out of him for a while.
But I have heard of making a drag link in the manner you describe, so I would say go for it, and take lots of pics for us.

In life many men take the path of righteousness, some take the path many others follow (G.M. owners, for example), some take a more arduous path, some a simpler path. I, sir, took the PSYCO-PATH!!

Personally I'd RATHER have a new one machined than one that was welded... not that the welded one would ever break... but there's always that thought in the back of your head....
I know on the big trucks (class
, if you get caught with a welded drag link, you're gonna get to sit it out until it's fixed...

Since I work in a machine shop, If this materializes sometime later, i'll cut anyone here a deal on one, once I get the engineering down. I do think 4140 shaft steel would be good as far as strength goes. 1018 and 1045 is too soft IMHO.
