351W

Post by thorn1968 »

Anyone know what an unassembled 351W motor might go for these days? I have all the pieces for one in my shop. It's one of those PAW motors with guide plates and roller rockers. I have everything but the 4 barel. :? I'm thinking of listing it and a '68 Mustang on eBay and just wondering what to expect.

Well, how many miles? Honed or bored? If its just an unassembled engine, prolly 200-400 dollars, at least where I am at.

I bought a standard bore 30k mile 351w out of a 71 Torino for $350.00 complete. I just started taking it apart and you can't even see any copper on the main/rod bearings, I'm VERY happy with it. So yeah, don't expect to get a whole lot for it unless it's been rebuilt and you have paperwork and receipts for the work.

OK...so if I have one of these: https://secure.pawengineparts.com/351W.html with forged pistons and upgraded to roller rockers, but can't find any of the paperwork from when I bought all the parts...then what am I looking at? I know what I'm into all this for...and I don't expect to get everything back.

I know...I'm a real PIA! :P

your engine is not assembled so it's not really an engine, just a bunch of parts. If I can't hear an engine run than it's just a core. I don't care how much money someone spends on forged pistons if it's not put together right (or at all) then it's just a truck full of parts.

I have to agree with sideoilerfe. If I can't hear an engine run in my mind I'm paying as if it's a core or needs a rebuild. Unless I've known the guy for years I won't take anyone's word that "It ran before I parked it, tore it down, etc...".

So the consensus is that it needs to be running to be worth anything?

that is thier opinions. it is worth more i think than a core type engine i would say. as far as buying engines out fo cars that you cant hear run. junkyards sell them all the time for a premium price. but they have a warranty behind them. if you were to sell a whole engine that you cant start. and are brave enough to put a warranty on it. then you have buyer confidence and can more to price it up higher.

but as far as your deal. it is a unassembled engine. it is harder to sell becuase no one wants to put it together. they want something put together. that is why it would be worth less than an engine that is put together. it is worth the price of each part really. it is almost better to sell it in pieces rather than one whole lot of parts that needs to be put back together. but then again who knows. someone may be out there ready to buy just what yuor looking to sell. if your going to sell it on line check the prices for similar items on line. and price it accordingly.

my opinion on what its worth? well where does this bolt go or that bolt go. i wouldnt buy it at all. maybe 50-100.00 becuase it is parts to me.
