Hi all!! Tire and wheel question?

Post by ibme »

I just bought a 1972 F250 Camper Special. I would like to get all the tires the same size. What would be the largest size wheel and tire I could use with out it rubbing? It currently has rear tires that are HUGE! and the fronts are smaller. Just a note.. I do plan on towing a couple of horses around every now and then. Also kinda not related to the topic, but... It has a four speed trany and it looks like the stock shifter, but when I shift into reverse it hits the air conditioner that is attached under the dash. I have looked to see if maybe the air unit was installed right and it seams to be as far back as it can go. Oh well.. I should take some pic's and post um.
Thanks for your time..

Hi you,
My 67 F100 all stock suspension has 31-11.50-15's all around, course I am old and hated them, but they didn't rub.

didn't the CS come stock with different size (larger) tires on the rear?
I remember reading somewhere that it was the only truck that did so.
I agree that a 31" tire is a safe bet for the fronts, in regards to rub potential. maybe even a 32", just to fill hte rear wheelwells up a little.
oh and BTW, wecome to the site! you will learn a lot here!

Never heard of that myself, and the brochures
make no mention...But I guess anything is possible.
My F-250 is the max GVWR "7500", and it has the
same tires all the way around. I would think most
CS's would use the same split rims and tires mine
came with. Some CS's actually have the medium
GVWR, and haul less than my non CS.

I have 72 ford f-100 explorer and was wondering the same thing I want to run 31's all the way around but don't want rubing and it's lower in the front soo Iam not sure. What's the diffrence in the suspention in a camper special and a explorer? Heard thet they make these deals that open the springs a little for added clearance.

If your Beast at least has the stock suspension height 31" tires on an 8" rim (standard offset) 15" or the antiquated 16.5" wheel should be no problem.
32" tires will fit also but they are an odd size and "Just don't look right."
My advise is go for the 31's and you won't be sorry!
