Mine's a bolt, but it's not factory, it's a dealer add on. But it is standard York compressor.

Mine has bolts in both locations.

I'm 99% sure it takes a stud in that location.

what i am think is that it might be factory a/c vs dealer add on a/c that i may be thinking of. i dont know why the second bottom bolt would have a stud. but the engine i took the studs off of was a dealer installed a/c. but the box of bolts i have from a factory a/c also has studs in that box also. that is why i couldnt be for sure. and i still arent sure. i guess it doesnt really matter on this truck.

Definitely a stud.

I just looked it up in the parts manual and illustration manual.

ok i see what happened.and the stud vs bolt issue. i am used to working with my pre mid 70 power steering bracketry and factory a/c. it has a bolt not a stud. the mid 70 and up power steering bracketry has the stud not the bolt. i think that extra stud has something to do with that tin bracket on the back of the power steering pump. it gives it a place to bolt down the btin bracket so it can hold the p/s lines from vibrating. if this link will work. you can see the 68 to mid 70 bracket stuff and the bolt. i think what i am saying is right. it looks like a bolt in there. http://www.fordification.com/images/sch ... etup01.jpg

fordman, maybe I'm misunderstanding which bolt/stud you're talking about.

Based on your original question, I thought you were talking about the vacant hole in the cylinder head next to the one with a stud in it. That's the location for the A/C compressor mount. The mount is attached to the head with studs.

I didn't realize that the correct illustration was on the site, so I looked it up in my own illustration manual. Here's a link to the page you need to be looking at for the compressor mount: http://www.fordification.com/images/sch ... tegral.gif

Off the topic - I just noticed on the schematic that the compressor is sideways. and on my truck I have it standing up. I had three different brackets and compressors and put the first one to fit. I should have looked at the schematics first. now I feel like a dork..

Don't feel that way. I have seen them mounted both ways.
