Rusty Booster -- any good?

Post by bwc302 »

I have several post regarding power brake boosters and wrecking yard items. Since these are salvage yards, should it be of concern if it is covered with surface rust and the vaccum line hole is unplugged? (BTW the lever that connects to the brake pedal is also covered with surface rust)

Thanks,

Bobby

Surface rust won't hurt the booster or brackets, but if the vacuum line has been unplugged for a while, the opening would have allowed crap to get inside....especially bugs. Maybe shoot a little compressed air in there to blow things out? You could always hook up a vacuum pump to it and see if it'll hold a vacuum. Of course, if you're removing items from a salvage-yard truck, chances are you're not going to have access to a vacuum pump or compressed air....so it's pretty much a crap shoot, I would think.

Be careful of little holes, I've accidently found wasp's nests!

with no vaccum pump available and the item already at the hourse, it is best to blow some compressed air through it (clean out any junk that may be in it). Plug the hole, clean it, paint and install it?

Sounds like going with a yard piece there is a 50/50 chance with it anyway.

Thanks,

Bobby
