Did you buy it in Colorado new or Alaska? As you keep arguing that they did not come standard by the brochure but I saw them when shipped to dealers in Colorado. You weren't in Colorado when the Truck was new and I was working for Ford when they rolled out 70 to 72.

I will probably get flamed for this... Please keep your bickering out of the post. Someone is looking for good helpful information about their problem, not 2 people ranting back and forth acting 12 saying, "I told you so!".

To the original poster:

I didn't see it mentioned in the post, but I could have missed it will all the bickering. I would suggest checking out the write-up Keith did. I found it very informative.

If you have any welding skills or know someone who does you can also have a custom one made that is what i did for my 72 f100

but Keith does have a pretty good write up on fuel tanks as well
I don't really care about brands Chevy Ford Dodge ...as long as it doesn't sound like two old dudes farting in a coffee can.

I agree with you in theory but it really is not helpfull if we do not respond to people who give out false information. If you let false information go unanswered then many people (including the original poster) may assume it is correct which can have serious negative impact. The response is important as it makes people aware of falsehoods that some people spread as fact. The bickering is simply the original person who posted false information trying to get people to believe his falsehoods and a response is required only to prevent the person spreading falsehoods from ending the conversation as if he were correct. I don't like it but I think that sometimes it is unavoidable. Unfortunately in this case wild claims were made that were absolute lies. If it were not called out then they may be accepted as truth. I have spent quite a bit of time looking in the last few days and Dragon has made a lot of claims but I can't see where he ever backed them up. The timing chain for example, Ford never offered a special chain even to their own teams according to their own records. The Ford racing catalogs and price lists from 66-69 only show one chain and yet he makes all these wild claims and offer no documentation or support. I even had one of the guys on the FordFE forum, where I am also a member, check the XE parts log he has (XE parts are experimental and racing parts and each and every one was well documented) and he could not find any "normal" application chains for the FE engines (there are things like cammer chains and such). The problem is that the person spouting this misinformation may actually believe it because of time and age but the reality is they are still untruths and need to be corrected. JMO Ed

A regional option package is entirely different than regular production.

Regular production = "stock" parts included on every truck nationwide.

Regional option package = most or all of that year model truck was ordered by that region's sales office with a specific set of options.

Just because mountain country RSO's ordered them that way doesn't mean that it was a "stock" part for the whole country. :nono: :shh:

The only usefulness of this information is which truck in the salvage yard is likely to have the spare tank you desire. But if you are like me, you'll look under all of them anyway.

That looks good, as long as the filler won't be in the bed.
Maybe you could fab up a flip down license plate and put the filler behind that.
And also run a wire to flip down the license plate when you're speeding past the cameras that take a picture of you speeding then send you a ticket in the mail.

Filler will be in the bed. I've got an idea on how I'm going to it. The tank is too high to put a filler behind the license plate.

The rear-most crossmember that used to be between the rear leaf spring frame mounts now gets moved all the way to the rear end of the frame and has to be installed upside down because of the contour of the underside of the bed (slightly modified to fit). Also all mounting nuts for the crossmember along with grade 8 flat washers are welded to the inside of the crossmember because there will be no clearance to get your hand and a wrench up inside for installation. Way sano. I have to spec out some existing fuel doors to see which one I will modify for my bed floor fuel door.
