ok, the headers that i have almost drag the ground, ive had enough. i need to find a set that will come down OVER the crossmember like my 390 headers did. the ones i have are real fancy so it makes them hard to give up, but i can barely get in my driveway. thing is i cant find any that state where they come out, all the research shows they come under the crossmember . the rest i coulndt find out about. has anyone used a quality set that went over the crossmember?? any feedback is appreciated
when we put the 429 in the 71 i got hedman headers from summit. there not fancy if your looking for more of a high-quality performance header.
i think these are them: http://store.summitracing.com/partdetai ... toview=sku
they go above the crossmember but its a tight fit. we cut a little notch into the frame.

What brand did you buy? Even Hooker racing headers for our trucks go through the same place as all I have seen.
3 inch collectors make it real tight but they do fit.

Ive got Doug Thorleys. they used to be real nice... 1 7/8 primarys and chrome
A guy i know has these on his 4wd, hes pretty sure they will fit 2wd as well. anyone know why they wouldnt? the only thing that he mentioned and i see is that the drivers side turns in towards the oild pan just a touch. im pretty sure my exhaust guy wont have any trouble with it. any thoughts?
Those are very unequal length headers great for the street look of headers but lousy for performance.

that was my first thought. if you look at the collector on the right side of the engine it is much longer. i assume this is to help even them out some. not saying theyre equal, but it looks as if theyve tried a little. I found a used set just now on craigslist, might give them a try. my motor way outperforms the traction that i have at this point, so Im not too worried about a perfectly tuned header. yet. itll still go way faster than sitting in my garage on jackstands . anyone ever try these? itd be nice to hear that they fit..
Also if you run a carb the carb will be radically lean on one side or rich depending on which side you look at. One side will scavenge at lower RPM than the other. This alters the air flow through the engine.

yea, i talked with sanderson. they told me that theyd guarrantee a set to fit. problem i have is that their customer service record is horrible. ive read reviews where people had defects in their headers and could not get them to do anything about it. also met a guy that bought some for his 460 cobra jet heads that they "guaranteed" to fit. when he called them to tell them that they had the wrong flanges for his head they told him he was wrong and that he wasnt putting them on right...
l&l seems to be ok. I havent heard bad things about them. id like to give them a try, I dont know any reason they wouldnt fit except i dont have a set to try. im gonna try to get a look at my buddies truck that has them so i can at least eyeball a fit.

Sorry to drag this thread back up, but what did you have to notch exactly?
ill try to remember to get more pictures later today to show you guys, but basically we had to do one frame notch. If i remember correctly the notch is a inch long, and goes about 1/2 inch deep. It is located on the passenger side, where all the tubes come together. Ill have to check it out and get pictures
