Help with serial numbers

Post by LOWERED 69 »

I was looking over the engine that I had pulled out of the crew cab a few minutes ago, and I decided to write down the serial numbers. The heads come up as being 427 side oilers? :? The casting number for the heads are C8AEH. The blocks casting number is C6ME, and that comes up as a 330??? But that doesnt sound right to me Im probably excited over nothing, it will probably turn out to be a plain old 360 lol. Ive never hear of a 330 though I thought it was 332-428. Right?

FE casting numbers mean very little:

C8AE-H is probably the most common FE head it was used on 360's, 390's, 428's and possibly 427's.

If you are using any book by george reid on FE's - stop... they are riddled with misinformation.

I decided to measure the stroke today and its 3.78", so it looks to be a 390. So Im not too disappointed, oh well atleast its better than a 360.
