Post by Jwelch »

I have kind of a stupid question, :) I just bought a new oil pump for my '70 360, that that was what my oil filter screwed onto but it is not the same, at least not that i can tell! is this not the oil pump? I need to replace this part but now feel like an idiot not knowing what to call it!!

The oil filter adapter? The actual part that has the threaded nipple to screw the filter on.
And no, you're not an idiot. We all knew nothing till we learned something.

Don't feel too bad, half the problem at the parts store is trying to figure out the exact verbage on what part you need. You know it as one thing, their "magic think-for-them box" has it listed as something you've never heard of.

I'm sorry if I ask lots of questions, there's just a lot of stuff I don't know (yet).

exactly. flywheels are all called flywheels not flexplates for an automatic. the automatic flwheel is called a flywheel automatic. where as a maunal transmission flywheel is just called a flywheel.

Yes it is a pain, I think what I am looking for is the "Oil sending unit" It is a raised unit coming off the block at an angle just behind the fuel pump and my oil filter screws onto it. It also has a small wire coming out of the top going to the wire bundle from my coil into the firewall. If I do a search on oriellys for this part name nothing comes back. It sucks needing a part and no way to find it at the auto parts store! :x

Sorry fordman did not see your pic on my first reply, yes that does look like it. Hard to say since mine is covered in oil though! Any idea where i can find one? Oriellys does not list one just a universal "remote" one, same for Autozone!

The oil pressure sending unit does screw into the top of that oil filter housing/adapter. The sender is readily available and you should be able to get it by going to either O'Reilys or Autozone. Oreily's website in particular is awful.

If not try NPD (National Parts Depot).

yes the oil sending unit does screw into the top of the adapter. the parts places should have that. here it is. they are calling it a oil pressure switch. part number S334 i cant seem to get the picture to hot link to the site. its just a small can type thing that screws in to the oil filter adapter that i posted a pic of earlier with a wire going to it for the guage to read from.

yeah i don't see needing a new adapter as long as it flows. I'm weary of the new Oil pressure switches as i beleive the new ones from o'riely and AZ are designed for the dents as mine have all read backwards with the new switch. of course once you install them they say hey you musta put it in wrong.

is there a source for senders with the correct ohms range?
